| Description | Director: Craig Kenner, Acting Asst. Director: Genéa Luck Mission: To encourage members of Mount Zion Baptist Church to exercise regularly and lead a healthier lifestyle as we fellowship together in building stronger minds, stronger bodies, and stronger friendships in Christ. Members of our Ministry are participating in the 8 Week Discovery Health Channel's National Body Challenge. This is our 3rd year tracking our member's progress in the 8 week Challenge. We are encouraging everyone to wear pedometers to track their miles and record their personal progress each week so we can celebrate everyone's efforts in reaching their personal fitness goals, restoring their determination to eat a healthful and balanced diet each day, and we are working to rebuild our bodies as strong Holy Temples combating stress, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sedentary lifestyles. 1. Ongoing monthly blood pressure awareness checks on the 4th or 5th Sunday, where we provide our church family with information about the warning signs, risk factors and preventative health recommendations for controlling and successfully managing high blood pressure and diseases related to high blood pressure (kidney disease, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.)
2. Ongoing support of the Drew Community Center's community aerobics sessions, whereas our Health & Fitness Ministry Leaders teach the classes on Fridays
3. Our second year in registering a co-ed softball team in the Arlington Recreation League
4. Our third consecutive year in coordinating a basketball team to play in area basketball tournaments.
5. And our upcoming activity that we are planning is supporting the Nauck Civic Association's Community Pride Day on September 26th from 9:00am-5:00pm. I am working to coordinate a community health event where we will have a walkathon between the area churches, and the 5 churches in Nauck will host a health symposium session during the day. Mount Zion will host blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings.
